„Advancing quality in ICT vocational education in Moldova“ project – results and expectations after the first year of implementation

On the 16th of January 2014 the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the project „Advancing quality in ICT vocational education in Moldova” took place. The project is implemented by the Educational Centre PRO DIDACTICA in partnership with National Association of Private ICT Companies with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency from the Austrian Development Cooperation funds. ADA was represented at the event by Mr. Gerhard Schaumberger, Head of Technical Cooperation Office in Chisinau and Mrs. Tatiana Zbanca, Programme Officer, Coordination Office for Technical Cooperation, Austrian Embassy in Chisinau. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to ensure the effectiveness and quality of project implementation. The committee is composed of representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information Technology and Communications, Technical University of Moldova, Professional Capacity Building Institute (IFCP) and ICT companies. During the meeting the project team presented the results of the first year of implementation and also referred to the activities planned for 2014. For the first half of 2014 the efforts will be directed towards the implementation of Strategic objective 1, namely: Modernizing the curricula for ICT specializations, relevant for market needs developed in beneficiary colleges with involvement of ICT companies’ representatives. The members of the Steering Committee offered a series of suggestions and recommendations regarding the possibility to ensure a better connection with the labor market, but also optimized project interventions. During the meeting the Committee members signed the “Declaration of Availability” and after content approval, they are expected to sign the “Regulation of organization and functioning of the Steering Committee”. The project „Advancing quality in ICT vocational education in Moldova“ was launched in 2012. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the harmonization of ICT education in Moldova with labor market demands. The project purpose is to support the qualitative improvement of content and process of ICT professional education in 6 institutions (colleges and vocational schools), thus fostering the improvement of quality of knowledge and practical skills of the young ICT specialists.
